According to a post on LinkedIn, the Biden administration has rehired former crypto advisor Carole House June 24th.

House said she was “honored to be called back to serve absolutely critical missions needed to shape the future of secure and trusted digital economies.”

House will serve as special advisor for cybersecurity and critical infrastructure policy on the White House’s National Security Council (NSC).

He served as the NSC’s Director of Cybersecurity and Secure Digital Innovation from April 2021 to June 2022. He also held positions at the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), the CFTC, the Treasury, and various corporations and organizations outside the government.

House has repeatedly expressed mixed feelings about cryptocurrencies. In a June 4 interview with Consensus 2024, House said that legal and illegal applications of cryptocurrencies are growing hand in hand, stating:

“Good growth in licit use will also present vulnerabilities and opportunities for those illicit actors who are often distributed, transnational criminal networks and syndicates.”

He said the United States is “the most compliant industry [of any] anti-money laundering jurisdiction” and noted growth in compliance, but described the need to address vulnerabilities.

In March 2023, he said that the United States should keep crypto innovation within its borders for enforcement and oversight purposes. The same month, she said the White House has taken a “balanced approach” during her time in government, despite concerns about regulators suppressing cryptocurrencies in the banking system.

She also co-authored Biden’s executive order related to cryptocurrencies. Some have disputed some of her opinions of her. Home testified in February that Bitcoin miners should impose network-wide sanctions, including against groups like the North Korea-backed Lazarus Group.

Tension board member Bobby Shell IV objected to his position today, saying such a policy is “not good for our nation or strategy.”

The news of House’s hiring comes alongside other cryptocurrency developments in the Biden administration. Recent reports suggest the administration aims to do so develop awareness efforts with the help of the crypto industry and may soon accept cryptocurrency donations.
